20 staff members of Deutsche Börse Group took part in the Social Day Event in Singapore

On 9th June 2017, 20 colleagues from the Deutsche Börse Group (DBG) Singapore Office – 360T, Clearstream, Eurex, and Market Data & Services – participated in the annual DBG Social Day event at the Visual Art Centre.

Paired with 10 members from the Association of Persons with Special Needs (APSN) – an association that caters for the needs of the individuals with mild intellectual disability, the DBG volunteers created air-clay figurines and watercolor postcards during the half day session. Beyond the chattering and exchange of laughter echoing the room, we had learnt so much through both activities under the guidance of the lovely art instructors from Visual Arts Centre. For one, the making of air clay figurines demonstrated the importance of being meticulous and patience. On the contrary, watercolor painting demonstrated the art of freedom, yet the skill of having a good balance: neither too much paint nor too much water.

The participants enjoyed the hands on activity of jumping clay moulding and built many of their favourite figurines. The watercolor postcard painting activity also allowed the participants to create their own artworks and cards for keepsake.”

– Iola Liu, Director of Visual Arts Centre

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work in planning and coordinating this event to ensure its success. The activity was not only fun for our beneficiaries but was a stepping stone to their course in the upcycling programme they would embark on as they use recycled materials to create new items. Hope to work with you again soon and future events!”

- Constance Yeo, Community Project Executive of APSN

The DBG Social Day event was first introduced in alignment with the DBG Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) strategy – to educate employees their important role and contribution to the society, and to encourage them to give back. Over the years, the DBG Social Day event was also seen as a great team building exercise. It has created a common ground for members working in different departments to unify and create a meaningful and charitable cause. On the other hand, as our third consecutive year of partnership with APSN, our core objective is to help the APSN members in their preparation of entering the workforce and becoming an integrated part of the society through interactions, and by educating them with various art skills, knowledge, and experience.

Finally Robert Tabet, Clearstream, drew his conclusion: “Our friends from APSN are really friendly! They have also exuded a positive learning attitude throughout the art activities, which cognate strongly to their positive outlook in life. The interaction with them made me realized how lucky I was, and how grateful I should be. This meaningful event also manifested how our society could be better integrated by showing a little more care, a little more love, and a little more time.”
